Holiday Home Safety Concerns

(And no, we’re not talking about COVID-19 this time)!

Safety Concerns:

The holidays may seem like the perfect time to gather with your household, or host your small bubble, but, if the concrete around your house is in disrepair, you may still have some safety issues!

  1. Sidewalks can become a particular concern if the concrete needs repair. Uneven sidewalks can be a trip hazard, and sloping or sunken concrete sidewalks can pose serious risks to those using them! I’m sure the last thing you want is for your loved one to fall on their way to Christmas Eve karaoke.
  2. If your home has a front porch or stoop, this brings another safety risk. Just as uneven walkways can be dangerous, imagine walking up to your front door, arms full of shopping bags when you stub your toe on that pesky sunken part of the porch. Your neighbours might hear some choice, un-Christmassy words coming from your house that day!
  3. When the soil under your driveway can no longer support it, the concrete slabs will usually start sinking and cracking. Just like with sidewalks and stoops, this creates an uneven surface and a host of problems for those trying to use the driveway. Like if your in-laws are dropping off some holiday gifts for you and are trying to stay distant by leaving the gifts in the driveway – be careful! No mask can protect against a driveway trip hazard.

In all seriousness, uneven or sinking concrete can cause real safety concerns around a home. These days there are so many things to worry about, let’s take care of the things we can! Contact us today if you want peace of mind tomorrow.
